I was pregnant with my oldest daughter and my older sister said “You have to read this book. No matter what you are planning on doing, read it.” It was a really cute book called “so That’s What They’re for.”
When she gave it to me, I realized I hadn’t even thought about breastfeeding or not, I think I just assumed I would. I didn’t know why I felt that way but I didn’t see any reason not to either.
So, I read the book and I went from “yeah I’ll breastfeed for some reason” to “oh my God if I don’t breastfeed I am a bad mother”. After leaning all about the benefits breastfeeding has and all the bad junk formula has I couldn’t help my feelings. The book is written in a really easy to read, fun way. Which is great when your pregnant and sleepy. I know a lot of what I learned came from the book but don’t ask me specifics, it was 7 years and 2.5 kids ago.
I hope that I can get others to decide on breastfeeding and to realize why they are. At the very least do some research and read some books It is a shame that more people aren’t handed books and told to read them no matter what. I thank my sister for giving me the gift of knowledge and helping me realize that with everything, you should learn why you feel the way you do.
