Nursing bibs

What on Earth are nursing bibs? Basically they are not much more than receiving blankets that people are selling to help moms hide the goods during breastfeeding. Nursing bibs come with a way to hook it onto you, often times by a loop over your head much like an apron. I have heard lots of names for nursing bibs, my favorite being hooter hiders. You can make them easily enough or buy them from just about anywhere from reasonable to expensive. Personally, I think they’re a waste of money. It’s one more thing to pack and wash and all that jazz. You will have at least one receiving blanket with you for the most part so why not just use that? You could even attach two buttons on the corners and carry a piece of material to fit onto the buttons. Anyway, the choice is yours about whether or not …

How Long Should I Nurse?

This is a hard question to answer. Honestly, I believe any breast milk is better then none. Studies show that babies should be breastfed for the first six months. Babies can’t have cow’s milk until they are a year old. So, what do you do for the other six months? Why would you stop nursing at that point? The bottom line is, it comes down to a personal choice you need to make. Only you and your baby will really be able to decide. I stopped with both of my girls at a year. By the time they get to be a year old, they want more independence. They are curious and want to see what the big kids are doing or the cat or whatever else is going on. It is a lot easier for them to grab their cups and go explore then it is to sit still …

Things You’ll Learn Too

You might not find these facts in any book but in my experience and the experience of other breast feeding mommies, they are true. Breastfeeding at night is a lot easier!! Whether you nurse or formula feed your baby will wake up in the middle of the night hungry. It is dark, you are half asleep, it’s probably cold outside of your bed. If you live in a two story house, most likely your bedroom and the kitchen are not on the same floor. Why on earth would you want to hold a crying baby, walk around in a cold, dark house, and make a bottle while you’re half asleep? Then can you fall back to sleep when the baby is done eating? A breastfed baby is easier. Lift baby out of bassinet, attach to breast and there you have it. You stay on your side and can rest while …

Worry No More

I have heard a lot of comments and questions that women have about breastfeeding. Here are some of the ones i have heard most often. I don’t want to whip out my breast in public. First of all, after you give birth a lot of your modesty will have gone away. Your midwife/doctor and the nurses will have seen more parts of your body then you have. Second, you never need to whip out your breast in public. Unfortunately, i have seen some women do this and honestly it gives breast feeding a bad name. I am glad that there are women who are so free with their bodies but we do live in a society where breasts are expected to be covered. Right or wrong, that’s how it is. When in public please try not to “whip it out”. That being said, when you are first nursing, a receiving …
